Chinese doctors from the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU), along with Dominican doctors from the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH), held two cardiac clinics at the Wesley Health Center and the Portsmouth Hospital on August 9 and 12. These clinics were conducted by the Chinese and Dominican medical staff of the Loving Heart Project Team.

These clinics, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services of Dominica and the Chinese Embassy in Dominica, marked the first-ever cardiac clinics in the areas of Wesley and Portsmouth. The clinics received support from the local residents, who benefited from free cardiovascular consultations, echocardiography, ECG examinations, and blood pressure monitoring.

? ? ? The medical team included cardiologists Dr. Dexi Wu, Dr. Rachel Andrew, as well as medical ultrasonics specialists, radiology technicians, and medical students. During the clinics, the team treated 78 cardiac patients, conducted 55 echocardiography procedures, and performed 65 electrocardiograms.

? ? ? Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death globally, contributing to a significant number of fatalities and disabilities. Following the launch of the Dominica-China Cardiovascular Imaging Center on July 7, 2023, Dominica has deepened its cooperation with China in healthcare. Last year, seven Dominican medical staff underwent a two-month training program on cardiovascular imaging at the FAH-SYSU. Additionally, the newborn screening program for congenital heart defects was also launched at DCFH earlier on July 30.

The Loving Heart Project Team, guided by the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services of Dominica, continues to offer cardiac clinics, congenital heart defect screenings, training for Dominican doctors in cardiovascular imaging, and providing academic lectures. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance cardiac healthcare and strengthen universal heart health in Dominica.
